Geothermal energy is a renewable energy source, not affected by climatic factors, sustainable and resilient, but with respect to other green energies, since this resource is in a geological environment, its use has a high risk, especially in the stage exploration. These characteristic risks, can be adequately reduced and managed through a comprehensive understanding of the nature of geothermal reservoirs.
Costa Rica has a high potential for this energy resource, which would allow to satisfy its demand in combination with other clean energies, while generating energy independence and economic development in the region.
The objective of the second EAGE Latin America Workshop on Geothermal Energy is to share experiences and lessons learned during Geothermal Resources exploration, development and exploitation stages, in order to establish appropriate practices for commercial uses of geothermal resources in the Americas.
