Women's leadership in geothermal energy in Latin America: challenges and opportunities

Sulamith Kastl

Federal Institute of Geosciences and Natural Resources BGR
Since 2007 Sulamith Kastl works as a scientific employee for the Federal Institute for Geosciences andNatural Resources (BGR) from Germany. In the framework of the Technical Cooperation (Germany)she has worked for projects in Paraguay and Indonesia. Living in Nicaragua since 2017, she is regionaldirector to implement the BGR support for geothermal in the SICA region, namely projectsYacimientos I (2017-2020) and Yacimientos II- Identification of Geothermal Energy Resources forLocal Development in Central America (2020-2023). She also is official member of the UN EGRMGeothermal Sub Group which mainly focusses on the UNFC for geothermal resources.

Ivanna Vallejos Baraho

She has a degree in Business Administration (Marketing and International Trade) with a master's degree in Administration from the University of Sciences and Art of Costa Rica. She has worked since 1999 at the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity in the Geothermal Resources Service Center supervising the accounting records and costs of the exploration, development and exploitation processes of Geothermal fields, it also has training in leadership, human development, occupational risk prevention, planning and general command strategy, and business etiquette.

Elizabeth Torio 

Geothermal Company LaGEO El Salvador and Women in Geothermal

Geologist – Petrographer, petrographic analysis, analysis by the X-ray diffraction technique (well samples, rock, corrosion, incrustation, etc.) and studies of fluid inclusions, geological control of the well and geological and geochemical interpretation of petrographic results. Master in Geology and Geochemistry from the University of the Philippines, Diploma in Geothermal Technology, Geothermal Institute, University of Auckland, New Zealand. Ambassador of Women in Geothermal El Salvador, is part of the technical committee of the International Geothermal Association (IGA)

Anyela Murillo

She is a geographer with extensive experience in spatial data management of geothermal projects in Costa Rica, as well as in the evaluation of hydrothermal resources for the planning of projects for direct uses of geothermal energy.

Graduated in Geography from the National University, she has a Master's Degree in Project Administration from the University for International Cooperation, as well as studies in geothermal heat pumps, United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC), among others. He currently works in the geothermal group of the Costa Rican Electricity Institute.
