We are happy to announce the first EAGE Mentoring Programme, a joint initiative of the two Special Interest Communities of the Association: the Young Professionals and Women in Geoscience & Engineering. The Programme consists of a 6-month exchange process on career development for pairs of EAGE members matched based on their goals and profiles, including optional face-to-face meetings for those attendingt he EAGE Annual.
The Programme draws from the WGE experience of two successful e-Mentoring projects as well as the constructive feedback received by the participants and EAGE members involved with the two groups. All EAGE members are welcome to join by sending an application (see deadlines below). A joint WGE-YP Committee will coordinate the matching process and connect pairs with similar interests.
Different matching options are possible: are you a young professional seeking career guidance? Several EAGE volunteers are senior geoscientists who can transfer valuable experience. Are you in your mid-career and considering your next step? Discussing with someone who has been in your place before might be a great way to find your way forward! If you are interested in learning about a different path, you may opt to connect with a professional from another field. Finally, you can also choose to orient your matching to address the challenges faced by female professionals in the work environment.
In addition to the matching, the participants of the Mentoring Programme 2019 who will attend the EAGE Annual Conference are also invited to meet in person at these events, where dedicated times and spaces will be available.
Participants attending the EAGE Annual 2019 will also have the opportunity of networking with the Special Interest Communities at their Special Sessions organized in London.

All participants can benefit from the Mentoring Programme. In the words of a participant of the WGE e-Mentoring Programme 2018: “It is a wonderful experience, you get a chance to know people who truly enrich your life”. 100% of those who responded to the feedback survey stated that they plan on keeping in touch with their mentor/mentee, indicating that the programme was successful in projecting benefits beyond the scheduled 6 months and to create long lasting links. 73% mentors/mentees said their exchanges produced constructive input for career development and were a motivational experience.
Here is some of the feedback received in 2018:
"I loved being in contact with my mentee. I learned a lot from her as well, as she is in operator side while I work in a service oil company."
"It was really nice opportunity to get to know somebody who is doing the career I want to do and get her perspective on all things geological. My mentor was helpful, encouraging and our chats ranged quite a lot. It was brilliant to be able to run through ideas with someone who had been in my position before!"
"It is a great opportunity to share one's knowledge and experience with others that may now be following a similar path. I also found it motivating for myself as a mentor."
