This event was developed by the Young Professionals Special Interest Community and presented for the first time at the EAGE Annual 2019 in Copenhagen. Thanks to the positive experience and great feedback from the participants, the YP Community will organize the Symposium again in London and invites all young professionals to join for a unique career development opportunity.

Your Career Symposium is a one-day interactive event that aims at guiding participants to successfully navigate the early stages of their careers. In 2019 the Symposium will focus on Digital Skills and will feature speakers from industry and academia.

Young professionals and graduating PhD students are invited to join for developing or improving the skill set required to kick off in the Geoscience and Engineering world.

Speakers

Patrick von Pattay 
Head of Digitalization, Wintershall

Patrick von Pattay holds an MSc in Petroleum Engineering (1999) from The University of Leoben in Austria. Patrick is internationally experienced Program Manager in Oil & Gas industry, skilled in managing complex projects in production enhancement and field development. Held various positions in R&D, Business Consulting, Oilfield Services and with an Operator, currently heading Wintershall’s Digital Strategy Project. He has a strong reputation of delivering sustainable and commercially valuable solutions, leveraging new technologies, innovative working approaches and best practice solutions.

Jon R. Rotzien
President, Basin Dynamics LLC

Dr. Jon R. Rotzien is President of Basin Dynamics, LLC. His expertise is the sedimentology and stratigraphy of deep-water depositional systems, source-to-sink sediment transfer, and basin analysis. Jon aims to address global challenges in the exploration and production of petroleum, including reservoir presence and quality forecasting in frontier basins, and reservoir connectivity and deliverability. Prior to his present position at Basin Dynamics, he was an exploration and appraisal geoscientist at BP. He received a Ph.D. in Geological and Environmental Sciences from Stanford University and a B.A. degree in Geology from Colorado College. While pursuing his Ph.D., he earned the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, one of the nation’s most prestigious fellowships awarded to young scientists. He has published peer-reviewed research papers and scientific conference proceedings pertaining to petroleum geology, reservoir quality, reservoir characterization, sequence stratigraphy, process sedimentology, basin analysis, and geophysics.

Ahmed Khamassi
VP Data Science, Equinor

Ahmed is a machine learning / artificial intelligence authority with keen interest in innovation. He leads the data science and design thinking teams part of Equinor’s Digital Centre of Excellence (DCoE). Ahmed is focused on creating innovative machine learning / AI driven products that support the DCoE’s strategic mission. Before joining Equinor, Ahmed successfully founded and grew a ML/AI technology start-up that builds products for clients in various industries. Ahmed built his expertise with top technology firms such as SAS, Paypal and Google. Ahmed holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in computational mechanics. He also holds post-graduate degrees in Management and Economics.

Matthew Lamont
Founding partner and Managing Director, DUG

Dr Matthew Lamont is founder and Managing Director of DUG.He sets the company’s strategic direction and remains intimately involved in the company’s R&D and DUG McCloud. Matt holds a PhD in Geophysics from Curtin University of Technology, and is an adjunct Associate Professor at Curtin. Matt’s working career spans 25 years, commencing in Woodside’s geophysics group. Later he was the technical lead for the seismic processing and imaging team for BHP Billiton, based in Houston. At stages during his pre-DUG career he was also involved in the inversion and rock Physics research and application.

Didac Gese Jarque
Geosciences Director of Software Training & Global Petrel Training Manager, Schlumberger

Didac Gese Jarque is the Director of Geoscience Software Curriculum and the Global Geosciences Petrel training manager. He has 12 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry, as well as 5 years’ experience in the Norwegian education industry. He started as a geosciences training specialist for the Global Petrel Training team and was responsible for creating and delivering various Petrel E&P Platform courses. Since then, Didac has held several roles in the Petrel Global training team and has worked as a senior geoscience workflow consultant as part of the Head Quarter’s services group. He has created and delivered training and consultancy technology adoption packages all over the world. In his current role he is responsible for creating and delivering workflow based, modularized geosciences training contents, with deeper learning experiences in focus. He is responsible for certifying trainers worldwide within the geoscience software domain. He focuses in transforming existing content to new delivery ways and blending domain and software-based workflows enabling the future of training roadmaps. He holds a five-year’s degree in Geology from University of Barcelona, Spain and has studied a bachelor’s in Political Sciences at University of Oslo, Norway.
