Cairo, known in Arabic as Al-Qāhirah ("The Victorious"), is the capital of Egypt and one of Africa's largest cities. It has existed for over 1,000 years along the Nile's eastern shore, about 500 miles downstream from the Aswan High Dam. Located in northeastern Egypt, Cairo serves as the gateway to the Nile delta, where the river splits into the Rosetta and Damietta branches.
The city showcases a blend of ancient and modern, with the Pyramids of Giza to the southwest and an obelisk marking the site of Heliopolis in the northeast. Modern high-rises overlook the Nile, while the city boasts over 400 historic monuments from Roman, Arab, and Ottoman eras, including mosques and mausoleums, amid bustling bazaars and contemporary amenities.
Cairo’s landscape contrasts lush, irrigated areas along the river with the brown and ochre tones of older districts near the Eastern Desert and Muqaṭṭam Hills.

Travellers can obtain their travel permits through entering their details in a short Egypt visa application form. After this is submitted, the eVisa will be delivered by email.

The Cairo Metro is another reliable option, especially for avoiding traffic during peak hours. If you prefer traditional taxis, please ensure the meter is running or agree on the fare in advance.
We encourage you to allow extra travel time, as traffic can be unpredictable, particularly during mornings and early evenings.
