Third EAGE Eastern Mediterranean Workshop

1-3 December 2021 | Larnaca, Cyprus & Online

Welcome Word

After the successful May 2019 meeting in Athens, Greece the next Eastern Mediterranean workshop will take place on the island of Cyprus between 1-3 of December 2021.

The Organizing Committee invites you to an international workshop that brings together established and young researchers from a wide range of disciplines, promoting scientific discussions, encouraging future collaborations and integrating research presentations with field trips and social activities in the overall program.

The EAGE Association promotes dialogue among researchers in the effort to unlock the petroleum exploration and drilling research that seeks to identify unexplored prospects in offshore waters. We invite researchers to present their recent advances in the wide field of the dynamics of sedimentary basins and petroleum resources and related analogues. We welcome contributions which evaluate and re-purpose the subsurface for alternative low-carbon use i.e., through carbon storage, hydrogen production and storage, geothermal and wind power etc.

The location of the meeting in the vicinity of the major Eastern Mediterranean active plate boundary is a stimulating environment for promoting discussions of processes related to the formation and evolution of sedimentary basins. Such sedimentary basins located in the vicinity of major plate boundaries contain valuable resources (i.e., hydrocarbon, ores, hydro-or geo-thermal energy).

The presentations of the conference will take place in Larnaca, Cyprus on the 1st - 2nd December 2021. On Friday, December 3rd, a field trip at the Troodos UNESCO Global Geopark which is considered as a unique world geological heritage natural site, will be organized.

Larnaca is Cyprus' oldest soul; the longest continually inhabited region of the island, with a history that dates back 10,000 years, offering easy access to other regions. Although the vast majority of visitors coming to Larnaca are interested in the traditional "sea, sun, sand" tourism, the city is renowned for its long cultural tradition, wide spectrum of activities and a great number of museums and archeological sites.

Sincerely,
