MARIA ANGELA CAPELLO

Executive Consultant - Kuwait Oil Company

Maria Angela Capello a renowned leader in the energy sector, expert in reservoir management, talent development, and diversity and inclusion. She was the first woman to supervise seismic crews in the jungles of Venezuela, to advance a career that spans three continents, shaping her characteristic insightful and multicultural perspective.  Her strength is an outstanding analytical and communication capacity for strategic step-changes and implementations in Talent and Leadership development, Diversity and Inclusion and women empowerment.

Maria is an executive consultant at Kuwait Oil Company, and has published 87 technical articles and is the lead author of “Learned in the Trenches – Insights on Leadership and Resilience” (2018) and  “Mentoring and Sponsoring: Keys to Success” (2020).  She received the highest individual recognition by the SPE, the Honorary Membership Award in 2019, and is recipient of the SEG Special Commendation and Lifetime Membership Awards. She is a Distinguished Lecturer of the SPE in Resilience (2020/21), chairs the SPE Business, Management and Leadership Committee, and serves as SEG Director at Large. Her passion is the empowerment of women and young in the sustainability of energy. She is a MSc of the Colorado School of Mines. 

MARIA BEATRIZ DE SANTA ANNA

Geosciences Advisor - DELTAPlus Energy

Maria Beatriz is a Geophysicist, with more than 17 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, she has a Geophysical Engineering Bsc from the Universidad Simon Bolivar in Venezuela. 

She performed her Bsc thesis in PDVSA Intevep and completed a Master in Exploration and Production from the Heriot Watt University and Repsol’s ISE Institute in 2003. Maria Beatriz started her professional career in Pluspetrol, exploring Bolivia, Peru, Colombia and Venezuela fold and thrust belts. 

She later changed to field development, to work out the mature fields in Neuquén and Northwest Argentinean Basins. In 2013 Maria moved to The Hague, where she worked as a consultant for the SGS group in their Subsurface Consultancy division; there she was responsible for the seismic interpretation and prospectivity analysis for integrated projects in the North Sea, North Africa, and the Western Coast of Africa. In 2016 she started working for Madalena Energy Argentina (today Centaurus Energy), with its unconventional assets in Vaca Muerta Fm. 

In 2020 Maria Beatriz founded her own technical consultancy named DELTAPlus Energy, where she continues working as a geoscience’s consultant.






CARLOS MORENO ELCURE

President of Lumina

Over 25 years having fun planning, acquiring, processing, interpreting and integrating geophysical data to turn it into barrels of oil and profitability. Expert in the use of technologies that help unveil subtle changes that could correlate to a better reservoir description/characterization. Holds a B.S. in Geophysics from Simon Bolivar University, Venezuela, a Master in Geology from the University of Oklahoma (Petroleum Geosciences Option) and took courses towards a PhD in Geophysics at University of Houston. Started his career as exploration and reservoir geophysicist for Venezuela’s NOC -PDVSA where he worked in survey design, processing and analysis of 2D/3D/VSP seismic data. Worked as research assistant at The University of Oklahoma in applications of Multicomponent Data for Geohazards analysis. In Fusion Petroleum Technologies (laterSigma3) worked in several technical and managerial positions. Currently the President of Lumina Geophysical, a software and service company dedicated to high resolution reservoir characterization, evaluation of Oil and Gas properties, etc. Carlos is part of the founders and is currently in the BOD of VAPA. He has multiple publications in specialized magazines and meetings.





CARLOS E. SANCHEZ

President of Venezuelan American Petroleum Association – VAPA

Oil and Gas Consultant with over 49 years of diversified experience in providing technical and management services to major and national O&G companies in Venezuela and to independent energy companies in South and North America. Special abilities include upstream business development, specialized exploration & production technical teams management, projects management and independent energy companies’ startups.

An Independent Oil & Gas Consultant in Texas since 2016 providing his expertise to local consultant firms and to south American oil companies. From 2013 to 2016 was the General Manager of Pacific Exploration and Production, Houston affiliate (today Frontera Energy), responsible for the office startup and for building a highly qualified technical team. From 2003 to 2012 was part of Vetra group of companies and the last position held was the COO of their USA affiliate.  

During the first 31 years of his career (1972 -2003) worked for Petroleos de Venezuela S.A (PDVSA) organization were his professional growth went from technical to managerial and to high executive positions. He was the Exploration Business Unit Executive Technical Manager at the time that he left the company.

Mr. Sanchez hold a bachelor degree in Geological Engineering from University of Oklahoma (1971) and during his professional development has attend technical and executive training in highly qualified Universities and Institutes in USA, Europe and South America.

Today is President of Venezuelan American Petroleum Association – VAPA, a Texas non-profit organization incorporate in July 2019 to promote energy professional growth and support the sustainable development of Venezuelan Energy Industry.
