The Petroleum Geostatistics Conference features keynote presentations from experts in CO2 storage to share experiences in this field.
Keynote: Rapid Reservoir Modelling for CO2 Storage Applications
Prof. Dr. Sebastian Geiger is the Professor for Sustainable Geoenergy and Energi Simulation Chair at the Department of Geoscience and Engineering at the Delft University of Technology. His research interests focus on better integration of reservoir characterisation, modelling, and simulation to accelerate the transition to a sustainable, just, and low-carbon energy future. Before joining TU Delft, he worked for 16 years at Heriot-Watt University in Scotland where he was an Energi Simulation Chair for 11 years and held several university management roles. Sebastian received a PhD degree from ETH Zurich in Switzerland and holds graduate and undergraduate degrees from Oregon State University in the US and the University of Freiburg in Germany. In 2017 he received the Alfred Wegener Award from the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), in 2020 he was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh Scotland's national academy of science and letters, and in 2022 as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in the UK. Sebastian graduated over 30 PhD students, supervised over 100 MSc theses, and trained 12 postdoctoral researchers. He has published over 200 reviewed technical papers in conferences proceedings or peer-reviewed journals, and co-edited one book.
Keynote: Preparing a CCS pilot scale project in Paris Basin, Grandpuits – France
Fernanda M.L. Veloso is CCUS project lead at the French Geological Survey since 2017, and being coordinator of two CCUS European projects: PilotSTRATEGY (characterization of CO2 storage sites in 5 European regions); and STRATEGY CCUS (techno-economic scenarios of CCUS deployment in 8 European regions). She is also working in CCUS National French projects as CO2SERRE, which is a techno-economic analysis of a BECCS from biomass heat plant (Carbon Removal). Before evolving her career to CCUS field, she worked in oil and gas industry. Currently, she is doing some research on H2 geological storage in aquifers using CO2 as cushion gas.
Keynote: How can Experts Know so Much and Forecast so Badly?
Reidar Brumer Bratvold is a professor of Investment & Decision Analysis at the University of Stavanger. His research interests include decision analysis, data assimilation and analytics, portfolio analysis, real-option valuation, and behavioral challenges in decision making.
Prior to academia, Reidar spent 15 years in the industry in various technical and management roles. He is co-author of the book Making Good Decisions. Reidar has three times served as an SPE Distinguished Lecturer and was the 2017 recipient of the SPE Management & Information Award. He is a Fellow of the Society of Decision Professionals and of the Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences.
Reidar holds a PhD in engineering and an MSc in mathematics, both from Stanford University.
