Dr. Ignatius Sonny Winardhi is an associate professor in geophysics at the Department of Geophysical Engineering, Bandung Institute of Technology. He obtained his master's degree in 1994 and his doctorate in 1997 from the University of Western Ontario (UWO), Canada. His research interest is in reservoir characterization using seismic data. This includes rock physics analysis, seismic modelling and inversion, as well as geostatistical applications for geological modelling. Currently, Dr. Sonny Winardhi serves as Chair of the Exploration and Engineering Seismology Research Group at the Faculty of Mining and Petroleum Engineering, Bandung Institute of Technology.
Catherine is the CEO of IRIS Instruments since March 2017, a global manufacturer of geophysical instruments owned by the French geological survey (BRGM) and OYO Corporation.Catherine is committed to driving innovation in new products through continuous R&D efforts. Partnerships with academic teams and companies provide valuable input to the teams of electronics engineers and geophysicists. Catherine maintains a network of contacts at all levels of industry and public organizations, building bridges between industry and academia.She holds a PhD in Geodynamics from the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris. Before joining IRIS Instruments, she worked for more than twenty years at the BRGM.She was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor in recognition of her exceptional service to the community. Catherine sits on various boards of directors and scientific advisory committees.
Koya Suto. Born in Japan. B.E and M.E from Mining College, Akita University. Studied further in the University of Adelaide. Currently, a PhD candidate of the University of Bucharest. After 25 years in the petroleum industry, Koya started Terra Australis Geophysica in 2003 to service the engineering industry using the MASW method. He translated “The Microtremor Survey Method” by Prof Okada (SEG, 2003) and “Application Manual of Geophysical Methods for Engineering and Environmental Problems” (EAGE, 2014). In 2015, he received Harold Mooney Award of SEG Near-Surface Section. He served Federal Executive of the ASEG for over 20 years, (president 2013-2014). He was SEG Honorary Lecturer for Pacific South of 2017 presenting lecturers titled “A Hitchhiker’s Guide to Geophysics” over 40 times in 22 countries.
Takeshi Tsuji received his Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo in 2007. He held academic positions at Kyoto University and Kyushu University, including a research stay at Stanford University, and became a full professor at Kyushu University in 2017. Since 2022, he has been a full professor at the University of Tokyo. His research covers geophysics, seismology, hydrology, geodesy, and planetary science, with an emphasis on seismic imaging, monitoring, and instrumentation. He has published ~250 peer-reviewed papers and received awards from IUGG, SPWLA, AGU, Seismological Society of Japan, the Japanese Government Young Scientists’ Prize, and the Western Japan Cultural Award.
He earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Geophysical Engineering, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) in 2006 and 2009, respectively. He then pursued PhD in Geophysics at the University of Potsdam, Germany, which he completed in 2017. He has been an Assistant Professor at ITB since 2010. From 2018 to 2020, he conducted research as a postdoctoral fellow at the I2CNER, Kyushu University. His research interests span from active and passive seismic imaging, machine learning applications in geophysics, and full-wave inversion, with applications in hydrocarbon as well as geothermal exploration. He is a member of the EAGE and SEG.
Dr. Nor Shahidah Mohd Nazer is a Professional Geologist and Head of Postgraduate Studies at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Holding a PhD in Civil & Environmental Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland, her expertise encompasses soil engineering, geohazards, and dispersive soils. She has successfully secured extensive research funding, including significant industrial grants. Alongside publishing in high-impact academic journals, Dr. Nor Shahidah is a prominent public intellectual, frequently providing expert commentary on geohazards across major media outlets like TV3, CNA, and Astro Awani.
Currently, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Fakhrurrazi serves as an Associate Professor at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA). He previously held the position of Head of Program for Infrastructure Management and Senior Research Fellow, bringing over 20 years of academic and professional experience at UMPSA, alongside the role as a professional geologist. His expertise lies primarily in geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, and slope stability. Throughout his career, he has been extensively involved in laboratory experimentation, research initiatives, and professional consultancy projects, with numerous publications in high-impact international journals. His doctoral research focused on the modelling of soil suction induced by tree water uptake in unsaturated tropical residual soil slopes, contributing significantly to the understanding of vegetation–soil interaction in slope stability analysis. In addition, he actively serves on several Civil Engineering and Geology committees, contributing to the advancement of geotechnical research, particularly in advanced laboratory experimentation and slope engineering. His academic and research contributions have been recognized through multiple awards for journal publications and research exhibitions at both national and international levels, reflecting a sustained commitment to excellence in geotechnical engineering research and innovation.
