Participation in this field trip is limited to a maximum number of attendees. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis upon registration. Early registration is strongly encouraged.

About the Field Trip

The Patuha Geothermal Field is a prominent renewable energy resource located in the Ciwidey area of Bandung Regency, West Java, Indonesia.

It is situated approximately 50 km southwest of Bandung within a high-elevation volcanic complex.

Key Features and Capacity

  • Operator: Developed and operated by the state-owned company PT Geo Dipa Energi (Persero).
  • Installed Capacity: The field currently operates Unit 1, which has a capacity of 55–60 MW and has been in commercial operation since September 2014.
  • Future Expansion: Development is underway for Unit 2 (another 55 MW), with construction expected to be completed by late 2026. The total potential of the field is estimated to be as high as 400 MW.
  • Reservoir Type: It is primarily a vapor-dominated (steam-dominated) system, which is relatively rare and highly efficient for power generation.
  • Operational Significance: Patuha is considered one of Indonesia’s most "clean" geothermal operations. Its greenhouse gas emissions are significantly lower than the global average for geothermal plants (roughly 43.3 g CO2 eq/kWh vs. the global 122 g).

FeatureDescription
Heat SourceDerived from the volcanic activity of Mount Patuha.
Reservoir Rocks
Primarily composed of andesite, breccia, and microdiorite intrusive rocks.
Fluid CharacteristicsSteam-dominated (97%) with temperatures reaching approximately 215°C to 225°C.
Surface ManifestationsThe area is famous for Kawah Putih (White Crater), a highly acidic volcanic crater lake, along with various fumaroles, steaming ground, and hot springs at lower elevations.
Structural ControlPermeability is largely controlled by fault structures trending NW-SE and NE-SW.
