In 2016 ANCAP opened it Exploration & Production Core Store, with the aim to collect and preserve rock samples from exploration and stratigraphic wells drilled onshore and offshore Uruguay since 1950. The building occupies an area of 682 m2, refurbished from former industrial facilities (alcohol beverage manufacturing) at the Capurro Industrial & Technological Pole in Montevideo.

This repository comprise more than 50 wells and 55,000 m of drilled subsurface, and is also capable of storing samples of fluids, seabed sediments, soil and outcrops, apart from the original physical copies of drilling documents. All samples have been catalogued and are available upon request to ANCAP for research, academic and exploration projects.

The attendees will have access to the selected intervals of cuttings from offshore wells drilled in 1976 (Lobo X-1 and Gaviotín X-1) and 2016 (Raya X-1), and selected intervals of cuttings and cores of the Santa Lucía basin and Norte basin, illustrative of potential petroleum system elements (e.g., reservoir, seal, source rock) of the Mesozoic and Paleozoic sequences.
