Marc Gerrits - Shell

Marc was appointed to the role of Executive Vice President Exploration in February 2017. In this role, Marc has global accountability for exploration operations and new business opportunities worldwide, as well as overseeing all technical aspects of exploration.

Marc’s career has spanned a variety of exploration roles since joining Shell in Australia as a geologist in 1986, bringing over thirty years of experience and leadership expertise to the Shell Group. This includes the position of Vice President Exploration - Asia and Australia from 2009 to 2014. From 2004 to 2009, Marc was the General Manager Exploration and Board member for Shell in Libya. 

He has also worked in technical and commercial roles in Angola, the UK North Sea and Egypt. From February 2015, prior to his current role; Marc held the position of Vice President Strategy and Portfolio, Upstream and Integrated Gas.

Jeroen Abels - ONE-Dyas B.V.

Jeroen Abels is GEMS asset manager at ONE-Dyas (the company formed by the merger of Oranje-Nassau Energie en Dyas), responsible for the exploration and development of the North Sea offshore licences straddling the Dutch and German border. Before joining Oranje-Nassau Energie in 2011, Jeroen worked for Shell. Jeroen held several technical and commercial roles concentrating on Europe, the Middle East and Africa.  

His current work focuses on unlocking the value of the GEMS area in the context of energy transition and redefined special planning of the North Sea. Jeroen holds a degree in Applied Physics from Delft University of Technology.

Annemieke van den Beukel - Shell

Annemieke van den Beukel is the Technology and Geophysics Lead for Shell Exploration. In this role she is responsible for the deployment of subsurface technologies and tools in all exploration ventures, as well as providing functional leadership on geophysical matters. Annemieke joined Shell in 2002 with a degree in geophysics from Utrecht University. Since then she has worked in research, development, near field exploration and functional roles the Netherlands, the USA and Norway.

Serge van Gessel - EuroGeoSurveys

Serge van Gessel holds a Master’s Degree in Geology at Utrecht University (1994). He is currently working as senior geoscientist and advisor for the Ministry of Economic Affairs at the Geological Survey of the Netherlands – TNO and focuses on the role of the subsurface in energy transition and security of supply. 

Besides his day-to-day work at TNO, Serge holds the position of Chairman for the European Geo-Energy Expert Group at EuroGeoSurveys, a not-for-profit organization representing 37 National Geological Surveys in Europe. He is also coordinator of the Energy Theme within the European ERANET Programme on Applied Geosciences (GEOERA).

Lucia van Geuns - The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies

Lucia van Geuns is Strategic Advisor Energy at The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies (HCSS). She held research positions at the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) and the Clingendael International Energy Programme (CIEP) after a career with Royal Dutch Shell (1980- 2002). Ms van Geuns has a background in geoscience, petroleum engineering, economics & planning. Her research focuses on international energy market developments, energy transition issues and climate change policies. In her present role, she is a frequent speaker on (international) energy markets for various public and private stakeholders. Ms. van Geuns holds a Master degree in Earth Sciences from the University of Leiden. She is president of the Royal Geological and Mining Society of the Netherlands (KNGMG).

Erik Sens - Shell

Erik is a Technical Data Management Consultant at Shell and accountable for day to day business proximate delivery managing subsurface technical data, together with technical disciplines, in a strategic way to enable digitalisation transformation within Shell and Upstream subsurface and wells. 

Erik achieved an MSc in Petroleum Geology during which he wrote his master thesis at Fugro and was subsequently appointed Geotechnical Engineer in 2010, which included offshore experience. A subsequent position with DataCo Ltd at Shell lead to a staff position in 2013 and Erik continues to combine his subsurface background, data management expertise and interest in digitalisation leading to new ideas for improving the way we work with technical data.

Jonathan Shearman - ExxonMobil

Jonathan Shearman has been with ExxonMobil for 21 years and has held various geoscience supervisory positions working on projects in areas including the North Sea, East Africa and the Black Sea. Jonathan is currently the supervisor of subsurface technical support for the Europe, Caspian and Middle East region at ExxonMobil and also leads ExxonMobil’s European Geoscience recruitment activities.

Eveline de Vaal - Shell

Eveline de Vaal is an exploration geoscientist at Shell. She currently works on growth projects for the MENA region.In her previous role in the NAM (2014-2018), she worked on various exploration opportunities in the Netherlands onshore. Working on basins located in heavily urbanized area, Eveline build experience on management of non-technical risks and license to operate issues in addition to subsurface work. Of special interest is her work on geothermal-synergy concepts where hydrocarbon and geothermal opportunities are combined. Eveline holds a master degree in Geology from VU University Amsterdam.

Ivo Vos - SGS

Dr. Ivo Vos holds an MSc in Earth Sciences from Utrecht University and a PhD in Geology from Monash University, Australia. Ivo worked as a geoscientist for Resolute Mining in Tanzania from 2005 to 2008 and subsequently as a senior consultant (structural geology) for SRK Consulting in Canada and Chile from 2009 until 2014. In 2015, Ivo joined the Oil & Gas Subsurface Consultancy division of SGS in The Netherlands. After initially being involved in a number of projects related to CO2 sequestration, coal bed methane and geothermal energy, Ivo changed to a more commercial role as business development and sales manager.

Femke Vossepoel - Delft University of Technology

Femke Vossepoel is Associate Professor in Petroleum Engineering at Delft University of Technology. After a PhD in Aerospace Engineering (Delft University of Technology, 1999), she specialized in data assimilation in coupled ocean-atmosphere models in academic positions at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie and Utrecht University. Applying data-assimilation in the geosciences, she continued her research in 2007 at R&D of Shell International Exploration and Production in The Netherlands. After various positions with the same company, she returned to Delft University of Technology in 2016. In her current role, she combines her industry background with her data assimilation expertise to lead national and international collaborations to better estimate induced seismicity and subsidence.
