Iain Stewart

Professor of Geoscience Communication | Plymouth University

Iain Stewart is professor of Geoscience Communication at the University of Plymouth and Director of its Sustainable Earth Institute. His research interests are in communicating geohazards, geo-energy and Earth science for sustainable development. 

His science communication expertise has been built on a 15 year partnership with BBC television presenting popular natural history documentary programmes, including ‘Earth: The Power of the Planet’; ‘Earth: The Climate wars’; ‘How Earth Made Us’, ‘How To Grow A Planet’, ‘Rise of the Continents’ and ‘Planet Oil’. Alongside being awarded an MBE, Iain has received a public service medal from the AAPG and is a UNESCO Chair in Geoscience and Society.

Alexandra Myhre 

Exploration Geoscientist | Shell

Alexandra Myhre is an Exploration Geoscientist in Norske Shell, based in Stavanger, Norway. She joined Shell in March 2018, after completing her Master’s degree in petroleum geoscience engineering at the University of Stavanger.

In the role of co-chair of the Young Explorers’ Network in Shell, Alexandra has been involved in different internal discussions on the future role of geoscientists in the energy transition, a topic she has great passion for. Furthermore, she is co-chair of the Young Professionals Committee in Norske Shell, which also has given her great opportunities to further develop general understanding regarding the role of traditional Oil & Gas industry in the energy transition.


Liz Schwarze 

Vice President of Global Exploration | Chevron

Liz Schwarze is vice president of Global Exploration for Chevron Upstream, based in Houston, Texas. In this role, she is responsible for Chevron’s worldwide exploration program and chairs the company’s Global Exploration Leadership Team. She is also a member of Chevron’s Management Committee and Upstream Leadership Team.

Schwarze joined Chevron in 1990 as a development geologist in the Gulf of Mexico and has subsequently held positions of increasing responsibility in the areas of exploration, reservoir management, strategy and planning and technology. She has had assignments in multiple locations in the United States, in Venezuela and in Singapore and has worked on projects around the world.

Schwarze holds a bachelor’s degree in geology from Duke University, a master’s degree in geology from The University of Texas at Austin and a master’s in business administration from Tulane University. She is a member of AAPG, SEG and SPE.


Myrna Staring 

PhD Candidate in Applied Geophysics | Delft University of Technology
President of EAGE/GAIA Women in Geoscience & Engineering Netherlands 

Myrna Staring is a PhD student in Applied Geophysics at Delft University of Technology. The aim of her PhD project is to evaluate the performance of Marchenko methods on seismic field data. As part of her PhD, she worked as an R&D intern with CGG in Brazil, CGG Netherlands and Aramco Overseas Company Netherlands. In the past year, she has been part of a think-and-do tank with young researchers and NGO’s to tackle barriers that keep the chemical industry from transitioning towards a circular economy. Myrna is the founder/president of EAGE/GAIA Women in Geoscience and Engineering Netherlands.
