Looking forward to our Annual Meeting in October

Message from Dirk Orlowsky, president EAGE 2021-2022

It is not long now before the 82ndEAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition is scheduled to take place in Amsterdam. We are increasingly confident that the conditions prevailing by the dates of the event (18-21 October) will allow us to hold the meeting with in-person attendance. Vaccination programmes worldwide and other measures continue to have a very positive impact on reducing the spread of Covid-19.

Some of you may also want some further information about our arrangements at the RAI Conference Centre to ensure that this is a safe venue for our meeting. This is something the Board and our staff take extremely seriously as the health and safety of everyone taking part in the event is the top priority.

We are being guided by the guidelines established by the Dutch government, local health authorities and our venue partner (The RAI Amsterdam) to ensure that all the required safety protocols are in place. This will most likely involve rapid testing before entry, wearing of masks and the provision of hand sanitation stations but we will provide exact details nearer the time.

All our health precautions will also be informed by the extensive simulations already carried out in the Netherlands through the Fieldlab Events programme. This was an exercise to ensure that large events, including conferences and exhibitions such as ours, can be safely undertaken.

We hope that this attention to your health and safety will give you the confidence and freedom to come to Amsterdam and experience our first in-person Annual meeting in two years. There is much to look forward to in the comprehensive programme being organized and this will of course be a treasured moment to reconnect personally with your fellow professionals in the geoscience and engineering community.
