Offshore Mineral Exploration – The Quest

Workshop 7
6 June 2022
Room A
Conveners: Adriana Citlali Ramírez(TGS)
Bent Kjølhamar (TGS)

Workshop Description

Achieving net zero, fuelled by renewable energy source is a challenge of enormous dimensions that requires not only technological advances but a massive amount of minerals. Meeting climate goals also means at least a tripling of mineral demand from the energy transition sector by 2040. This demand cannot be met by current onshore mining, so unlocking the offshore option in an environmentally friendly and high-tech-driven way is hey to meet the UN climate goals sustainably.

Sub-Topics that will be covered in the workshop:

  • Multi-physics technology for offshore mineral exploration.
  • Experience and expectations for offshore mining
  • Regulations and exploration licenses

Participant Profile

  • Geoscientists interested in learning about offshore mining
  • Asset managers and decision makers
  • Individuals interested in the energy transition
